Wayne Theibaud Cupcakes
Focusing on a wonderfully, delicious painter, Wayne Theibaud's sweet canvases inspire the kids to create their own sweet treat. We first studied Theibaud's artwork and his style of drawing several of one item and his dark shadows to show emphasis. Afterwards, we learned how to draw cupcakes using that as our object. We then repeated it two more times to create three cupcakes. Then then used chalk pastels to color and mix together the delicious colors for a more realistic look. They created a table with a background, again using the pastels. The cupcakes were applied to their backgrounds and whaala! Delicious art!

Paint Like the Impressionists
Painting like Monet
Artists learned about the famous painter Claude Monet and the style of painting he became so famous for, Impressionism, which shows natural physical impression. We talked about the painting technique and practiced using short quick brushstrokes and mixing paint on our paper to create a more realistic look. Students are also introduced to different painting techniques such as tape resist and sponges painting to create a Monet Garden.

Little Monets Hard at Work
Who is Stuart Davis?
Known as the father of abstract art, 1st graders follow his techniques by making abstract art using letters and numbers.
