5th grade artists are really enjoying the concept of symbolism created with sand. We have talked about the religious ceremonies that were the initial reason for sand paintings in the Navajo culture. Even though ours weren't meant for religious ceremonies, we still used symbolism as our emphasis and the symmetrical design concept.
